What First Amendment?
The First Amendment to the Constitution says:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
Proof Trump has to regard for the First Amendment
Apparently, the Trump Administration does not believe the first amendment exists or even matters. Let’s break the pertinent parts down into very simple terms so Donald Trump can understand:
Congress – in the context of the Constitution, this includes all of the government, including the president and everyone who works for the Executive Branch.
Shall make no law – cannot act.
prohibiting the free exercise of religion – cannot interfere in someone’s worship, no matter where or what they worship.
the right of the people peaceably to assemble. Self explanatory – the ability to assemble anywhere in a peaceful manner.
Donald Trump, in his ongoing assault against immigrants, has violated the First Amendment very severely over and over.
The most recent example shows us that Donald Trump and his ilk care not a whit about the protections afforded the citizens of the United States by the Constitution. He apparently is sending ICE to find and deport regular, church-going individuals. This is in total violation of the constitutional protections found in the 1st Amendment.
CBS13 in Sacramento, California reports that ICE officers were seen sitting in an unmarked car last Sunday, staking out and surveilling the church. They waited for who knows how long but appeared to act in direct violation of the Constitution. They interfered with the free exercise of religion or the right of those church-goers to peaceably assemble in their chosen place of worship.
It is apparent that Donald Trump knows little about the Constitution. He cares even less than previously thought, but to send his Gestapo masked as ICE officers to a small church during their worship service goes far beyond what anyone expected.
This is outrageous and scary. If ICE will now be entering our churches and sanctuaries, where will be safe?
We must stop this before it gets any more out of hand.
